The Asian Confederation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (ACIIA) successfully hosted a free webinar and roundtable discussion on November 20 via Zoom, gathering Chief Audit Executives (CAEs) and internal audit leaders from across Asia and the Pacific for an in-depth examination of the Risk in Focus 2026 report. The event served as a timely platform for internal audit professionals to better understand the evolving risk landscape and the challenges shaping the future of the profession.

The session opened with a comprehensive presentation by Deborah Poulalion, Senior Manager for Research and Insights at The IIA. In her discussion, Poulalion unpacked the major themes and emerging risk areas identified in Risk in Focus 2026, providing participants with a clearer view of the external forces influencing organizations today. Her insights set the stage for a thoughtful exchange that followed during the roundtable portion of the event.

Moderated by ACIIA Deputy President Stephen Tiley and ACIIA Vice President Joseph Ian Canlas, the roundtable brought forward critical questions raised by CAEs in the region. The panel of CAE leaders offered their perspectives on the report’s findings, addressing practical implications and sharing experiences from their respective industries. Their input provided attendees with real-world context on how organizations are responding to risks and how internal audit functions are adapting to shifting expectations.

A key highlight of the discussion centered on the accelerating global risks brought about by rapid digital disruption—particularly the increasing impact of artificial intelligence—and rising geopolitical instability. The conversation underscored how these interconnected forces are reshaping audit priorities and redefining the skills needed by internal auditors. Panelists emphasized the importance of agility, strategic thinking, and stronger collaboration between risk and assurance functions to navigate these uncertainties.

The event concluded with a shared recognition of the value of regional dialogue in strengthening internal audit practices. By bringing together leaders from across Asia and the Pacific, the ACIIA provided a platform for exchanging insights, reflecting on collective challenges, and reinforcing the profession’s commitment to addressing emerging risks with integrity and foresight.
